University Application

Prepare SOP, LOR, CV, then submit via Uni-Assist or the university portal.

German universities either accept applications directly through their own portal or via Uni-Assist. Most master's applicants use Uni-Assist for the first application; TUM, RWTH and Heidelberg accept direct applications.

Why it's needed
This is your formal application to be admitted to a study program.
Who requires this
Every bachelor's, master's and PhD applicant.

  • APS certificate
  • IELTS/TOEFL/PTE score
  • Bachelor's degree + transcripts (for master's)
  • Language proficiency for the target program (DSH/TestDaF for German programs)

  • Create Uni-Assist account and prepare VPD if required
  • Draft SOP (600–900 words) tailored per program
  • Request LORs from professors/managers 6–8 weeks in advance
  • Upload documents in requested formats (PDF, size limits)
  • Pay application fees (€75 first + €30 per additional via Uni-Assist)
  • Submit before deadline (typically 15 July for winter, 15 January for summer)
  • Track application status online
