Tax ID (Steuer-Identifikationsnummer)

11-digit ID assigned after Anmeldung — needed for every job, contract and bank interest.

The Steuer-ID is your permanent tax identification number. The Bundeszentralamt für Steuern (BZSt) auto-sends it 2–4 weeks after Anmeldung. Employers, banks and insurers all ask for it.

Why it's needed
Without a Steuer-ID your employer withholds tax at the highest emergency rate (Steuerklasse VI).

Everyone registered in Germany.
