IELTS Academic

The most widely accepted English proficiency test — 6.5+ overall for most German programs.

IELTS Academic is the flagship English test for higher education. In India it is delivered by IDP and the British Council on paper, computer, and IELTS Online. Almost every English-taught program in Germany accepts IELTS 6.5 overall (with no band below 6.0 for TU9 universities).

Why it's needed
Universities need proof you can follow lectures, write papers and defend a thesis in English.
Who requires this
Applicants to English-taught programs whose prior degree was not fully taught in English. A university Medium-of-Instruction (MoI) letter can sometimes substitute — always check.

  • 16+ years of age (recommended)
  • Valid passport for booking and test day
  • Payment method for exam fee
