Health insurance is mandatory in Germany. Students under 30 can enrol in statutory public insurance (TK, AOK, Barmer, DAK) at ~€120–€130/month. Private insurance is required for students over 30 or in preparatory language courses.
Why it's needed
Universities cannot enroll you and the visa cannot be issued without proof of insurance.
